Our last formal reception of our group show, "Whiskey and Goldfish". This time, we had a lot more than Pepperidge Farm goldfish....

And a little about our group:
About Playgroup
Painting is a solitary endeavor. After graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2005, I felt a need to interact with other artists. I missed the critiques I got at school, looking at other artist’s work and hearing about process. In 2007, I cobbled together a group of disparate artists with the idea of forming a critique and art making group, hence the name “Playgroup”. I chose people similar in temperament, similar in experiences (all have/had successful careers in other fields) and had a clear idea about their work. We started with 7 artists which has now become a core group of 4. We meet once a month in my studio and bring work, personal and professional updates, and gossip. We have done art projects together but the focus has been to critique work. The meetings have become a safe place to discuss insecurities about our work, anxieties about life, personal reflection, and of course, to have honest and respectful discussion about the work.
We are celebrating our 10th year of meeting, critiquing, commiserating, creating, laughing, and drinking with this group show at the beautiful Canessa Gallery. I introduced a humble bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label a few years ago and whiskey became our drink of the evening. With the whiskey and goldfish crackers, we were armed for an evening of delicious discussions.
The show is up through December 28, 2016. The gallery is open Wednesday afternoons and by appointment. Please contact nerdychick2001@gmail.com for information.
