ArtSpan Open Studios 2016 Exhibition at SOMArts and the Pretend Curator Part 1

Every year in October, San Francisco becomes a hub of activity.  In addition to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and the Blue Angels, the 800+ artists open up their homes, studios, garages during the 4 weekends of Open Studios.  Each district is open on a particular weekend.  The festivities starts with ArtLaunch, the opening exhibition at SOMArts.  All the work is no larger than 20 in X 20 in and represent most of the participating ArtSpan artists.  The exhibition is free and open through November 6, 2016.   There's always much excitement at this event with the unveiling of all the artwork.  I go early to get a good look because it gets super crowded. And really, I don't get to look closely at the work, I save that for when I do my gallery sitting gig.

Which is what I did yesterday.  I really love doing this because I get to sit with the work for 4 hours and think about how I would organize them.  Or think about which work looks the most like mine.  Or, if I had to choose just one piece, which one would it be?

I begin today's post with the first curating exercise.  The theme = San Francisco.
I chose pieces that were obviously of San Francisco or had that certain flavor of SF.  Wouldn't the grouping look wonderful on your wall?

And, if any of the work looks interesting to you, look them up on the ArtSpan webpage and visit their studio!  All works are for sale unless otherwise noted.
