From the people who brought you the Sketchbook Project.

Make a painting and start a conversation
In Pen Pal Painting Exchange, you'll be creating a painting, and then we'll be pairing you up with another painter to start a conversation. They might be from another city, country, or even another continent. We'll be looking at specific details about you and your submission to make a great match!
Create a painting. We're supplying the canvas for you to start working on. It's pre-gessoed and comes ready to hang. The theme of this project is Connections in the Distance. Use this theme are a springboard for inspiration.
What you get for the $50 fee - deadline Tuesday July 30, 2013
- A 4x4 canvas to use for your project submission.
- An official note card where you'll tell a little about yourself and write a note to your Painting Pen Pal.
- Custom match-making with another participant. Their painting and note card will be mailed to you, and yours to them!
- The official rule card with deadlines, guidelines and all the other info you'll need to remember.
- Free shipping for the painting being mailed back to you for the exchange!
- An exhibition at Brooklyn Art Library
- The chance to connect and start a conversation with an artist from another part of the world.
- An exclusive email with ideas and inspiration for this project.
- An experience and a piece of art that you'll have forever
You might think this is expensive - similar to a fee one pays to apply to shows and residencies. But here, at least you know your work will be in a show, you will make some sort of connection through the exchange, and perhaps by participating, it may bring you to a different place in your creativity process. You will never receive a letter that says "we are sorry to inform you that you did not get in (the residency/show) -there were many qualified applicants blah, blah, blah".
