Iceland Day 8

To the land of puffins... Hafnarholmi, hiking to Brunavik, charming towns in the fjord

It is difficult to see in this image, but there are puffins swimming/floating in the cove.

and not just puffins, but kittiwakes were nesting on the rock.

I like seeing the landscape as a color field, even when the area is small.
And at the end of the hike, another waterfall.

We stopped in Bakkegerthi  for coffee at Alfacafe which sells souvenirs made from rock.  There was a small library and one particular book about the artist Elias Halldorsson  intrigued me.  A quick search for a website showed nothing helpful.  There was but one image of this work found on Artnet and it isn't a very good one.  I was impressed with his use of color and brush strokes.  Trying to find out more about some of the Icelandic artists has been difficult.  There isn't much out there on the Internet and nothing on Amazon or EBay either.

We returned to our hotel, and not wanting to eat another dinner there, we drove to Seythisfjorthur, a rather wet and treacherous drive over a mountain to find our dinner.  The views alone were worth the drive.  We ended up at Skaftfell, a charming bistro which sponsors an artist in residence program.  We wished we were staying in this charming town rather than at our current guesthouse.

We ate well.

Before heading back to Gistiheimilith Eyvindara, we stopped at another beautiful town located on the fjord for a stroll.

A final, lovely cup of tea before tackling that treacherous ride home.
