Iceland Day 5

Turf houses, icebergs and lobster!
Our trip included a lot of driving because we opted for a trip that covered the circumference of Iceland, but leaving out the northwest corner.   Having our own transportation enabled us to choose what we want to see like this village of abandoned turf houses.

Next stop - Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon - simply magical.
Icebergs that have broken off the Vatnajokull glacier are now floating in this lagoon. We could hear "booms" and "splashes" in the distance.

what color is that iceberg?  Cerulean blue mixed with titanium white?  Does it have a hint of viridian?

In order to get close up images, we rode this amphibious vehicle.

the icebergs floating out to sea through this mini Golden  Gate Bridge.

We stopped at a viewing point for a good look at the glaciers.  Iceland is a place of many views and moods.

When we reached our accomodations for the night, we were disappointed to see that the Hofn Inn looked like is was part of a gas station.  It was clean but charmless and we had 2 nights stay to look forward to.  On the bright side, the town of Hofn boasts of  serving the most delicous lobster (langostine).  True enough,  I had the most amazing dinner at Humarhofnin restaurant.  It was the best meal I've had in a long time.
