Iceland Day 3

Hiking to bathe in a a geothermal stream at Reykjadalur

See the steam vents in the distance.

It was a great hike, with boiling mud pools, steaming vents, hot water and streams.

The perfect temperature in the distance - the stream in the foreground is the super hot water which mixes with the cool stream to make the perfect bathing temperature.  That's where all the people are in this photo.

While not a super strenuous hike, some opted to ride the beautiful and friendly Icelandic horses.

The  horses rest while the riders bathe in the warm waters.

The bathing spot from the distance.  We continued our hike beyond this point to see some more boiling pits and mud.

This was a very impressive steam vent.

The view of the geothermal valley from the top.

Our hotel packed an immense lunch for us to take for our hike.  There was enough for 2 lunches so we saved about half for the next outing.

This bubbling pool had a unique cool blue hue.

I love the green growing on the gray rock.

video of the impressive steam vent and it's surroundings.

We returned to our hotel (Hotel Hekla) and we decided to soak in their outdoor mineral bath.  It was heavenly even after our heavenly soak in the natural hot springs.  The views from our hot tub were stunning.
