Iceland Day 11

Turf houses, Husavik museum, Asbyrgi gorge

Glaumbaer Folk Museum - a fascinating look inside these turf houses and how people lived (dating back to 1750)

I recognized this object from my hat making class.  The technology hasn't changed at all - hat makers still  use molds just like this one.

One of my favorite areas - the communal kitchen

A smaller kitchen

a specially designed tea cup for a mustached person

Adjacent to the turf houses was a modern house with conveniences and yet again, delicious free coffee.
After a short break, it was off to Husavik and the Husavik Museum.  Mentioned in an earlier post, these crocheted grassy mounds were done by the artist  Rosa Sigrun Jonsdottir.

Asbyrgi - this amazing broad canyon that was difficult to capture with my little IPhone camera.  We went for a short hike to see the massive rock walls.  Asbyrgi was gouged out by catastrophic flooding from Vatnojokull.  It is difficult to visualize - I wish there was a computer generated model to show how this was formed.

Thanks to Google Images, I have included more impressive views.

Back to our guesthouse - retrieve our laundry and have a wonderful salmon dinner.

Our last night at the best place we've stayed at in Iceland, The Storu-Laugar Guesthouse.  Clean rooms, excellent wi-fi, great food, and the best hot tub.
One last look at the horses...

and one last look around.
