Stoking the Creative Fires
I just finished reading "Stoking the Creative Fires: 9 Ways to Rekindle Passion and Imagination" by Phil Cousineau. I liked the way the book was organized with clear chapters like "Celebrating Reverie" and "Creative Space" and a helpful reading list at the end. In addition, the book had exercises and helpful anecdotes and it felt more like you were having an intimate conversation with your mentor. I read the book in between adding layers of paint so it was a lovely respite. Who amongst us artists hasn't doubted one's own work, felt discouraged, or lost one's way? This book might be of some help and while i wasn't feeling any of those emotions at least recently, i felt encouraged and more centered after reading the book. There are some great quotes in the book and here are some of my favorites....
When in doubt, slow down. -Thoreau
Procrastination is the thief of time.
When you try to do everything, you do nothing very well.
Memory is a merciful editor - Irish saying.
Learn from a lived life.
Remember to remember.

Follow your fascination. - Joseph Campbell
Failure is not falling down..it is staying down. - Mary Pickford
Within every dying fire is a spark ready to become a brilliant blaze. -Phil Cousineau
