Call for Youth (age 14-17) Arts Apprenticeship Program
Spring 2011 Powerhouse Arts Apprenticeship Program
Do you want to use art to create change in your community? Do you have a story to tell or a voice that needs to be heard? Are you a wordsmith, budding poet, writer, lyricist, screenwriter, photographer, digital artist or journalist? Do you want to get PAID to learn and create?
Apply to the Powerhouse Arts Apprenticeship Program for Spring 2011! We’ll provide artistic and professional training in a friendly and supportive community that will help you tell your stories. We have two apprenticeships for spring - creative writing/literary arts and digital photography.
Deadline: Wed January 12, 2011 at 9 AM
What Else Do I Need to Know?
During the apprenticeship, you’ll be focusing on the question of what makes a community healthy through your chosen art. What impacts your well-being, your family's health, and that of your neighborhood? It could be crime, access to social services, bus routes, parks, I-280, and many other issues you’ll discover on your own.
The apprenticeship program runs 12 weeks, 6 hours per week after school. There are also 3 required all-day Saturday retreats full of team-building, community-building fun. All apprentices who complete 80% or more of the program will receive a stipend based on your attendance, and a letter of recommendation for college or your next job.
By the end you’ll know from your own hard work what makes a community healthy, and be able to use your literary or photographic superpowers for good!
Qualifications
You must be 14-17 years old and live or go to school in SF's Supervisorial District 11 (Cayuga Terrace, Crocker Amazon, Excelsior, New Mission Terrace, Outer Mission and Ocean View/Merced Heights/Ingleside (OMI)).
Available at least 6 hours a week to attend classes
Ideal candidates are motivated, organized, community engaged and artistically inclined with an interest in helping their communities.
Work on your application during the holiday break!
