Transit/Stasis
Call for Proposals
TRANSIT/STASIS: Negotiating Movement in the City
Description: The San Francisco Art Institute 2011 MA Collaborative Project is seeking proposal submissions for the curated project and publication TRANSIT/STASIS: Negotiating Movement in the City. We invite individuals and groups from all disciplines to produce a proposal that envisions systems of human movement and transportation within San Francisco.
We are seeking proposals for projects that address how individuals moving through the urban environment are informed by cultural, economic and political systems (eg. ability, borders, topography, psychogeography, social identity...). Additionally, we are interested in projects that operate through infrastructure (eg. bus systems, communications, vehicles...) or technological interfaces (eg. augmented reality, GPS-based, hacked tech...) between people and spaces. We encourage proposals that consider the space of negotiation between transit and stasis as a productive territory for conceptual inquiry and physical interventions.
Questions to Consider:
How do we navigate systems of movement and how do systems of movement navigate us?
How do you envision systems of movement in the future?
How does the advance of technology affect movement and what happens at the junctures of old and new systems?
Recognizing the proposal as both a means and an end, a limited number of proposals will be selected by the MA Collaborative for publication and realization in the spring of 2011. All proposals should be specific to San Francisco, however it is not necessary to reside in the Bay Area to submit.
