Makoto Fujimura

I took a nihonga painting class from Judith Kruger (see May 30, 2009 posting), an American who embraced and mastered the technique of nihonga by taking numerous trips to Japan and learning from Makoto Fujimura, an abstract painter living in the US and who uses nihonga technique. A Presidential appointee to the National Council on the Arts (2003-2009) and a devout Christian, he has illustrated a religious text called the "4 Holy Gospels". The vimeo is about his process in illustrating the text. There isn't much info on nihonga on the web and in this vimeo, you get to see a little of the process.
