8th Excelsior Arts and Music Festival Call for artists

Call for Artists and Crafts People for the 8th Excelsior Arts and Music Fesitval to be held Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 11 am to 5 pm, Mission at Ocean Avenue.

The Excelsior Arts and Music Festival is the largest event in San Francisco's Excelsior District, drawing over 5,000 people to our vibrant and diverse community.

This free family event features live music and entertainment on two stages, a dedicated children's area with free entertainment, games, and activities for the kids, international food, art, and crafts vendors.

Live music will feature a variety of genres and in the past included hip-hop, jazz, Latin, House, Pop, Rock and dance. This year's event features the “Excelsior's Got Talent” competition.
The Excelsior Arts and Music Festival began originally as the Excelsior Festival, a volunteer-led effort spearheaded by Excelsior Action Group. The Festival aims to highlight our community's assets, celebrate the uniqueness of our community and connect residents and organizations to one another through the arts, music, and play.

Proceeds benefit Excelsior Action Group, which promotes programs aimed to economically strengthen and stabilize the Excelsior's Mission Street commercial corridor through special events, small business support and assistance, organizing and community projects such as murals, gardens, art and merchant events to increase foot traffic, improve public safety and create a safe and welcoming experience for all who live, work and shop in the area.

The Festival is produced largely by volunteers and community organizations with an interest in building civic pride and showcasing all that the Excelsior community has to offer. This unique event also features a new talent competition, with "celebrity judges", and tons of activities for children and families. It's a fun-filled day in the neighborhood with good music, food and fun.

My studio is in the Excelsior District and while i won't be participating because my art would not be a good fit, i hope there will be representation of the local art in this area. I love the Excelsior because it is so low key. I shop there, use the post office, buy lunches, and use the wonderful dog park, McLaren Park.
