Local Treasures

Last Friday, i attended a talk by Peter Selz at the Berkeley Art Center. The subject was on the current show "Local Treasures - six Extraordinary Artists" on view until this Sunday,August 8, 2010. I liked that BAC wanted to highlight local artists and to see them as treasures. The six artists honored are Robert Brady, Squeak Carnwath, James Melchert, Katherine Sherwood, Livia Stein, and Gale Wagner. Curated by Suzanne Tan and Richard Whitaker who is also the editor of Works and Conversations, an informative publication. While the talk by Peter Selz was uninformative in that there wasn't much insight, i still enjoyed his descriptions. Fortunately, some of the artists were there to talk about their work. It is a long way to go for a talk but it was nice to see the art, hear the artists and Peter Selz, and drink the nice Peet's coffee.
