Discovery Night May 11, 2010
Stacy has her table organized and ready for the Discovery Night visitors.
Stacy working the visitors.
Johana Rosas apprenticed with Rachel Allen, for an animal care experience. They produced a very colorful, informative poster.
JJ Torres worked with Alex Rood in a structural engineering apprenticeship. He constructed a building to test it's response to an earthquake.
Ladasha Mixon worked with Erik Newton in a law apprenticeship. The poster outlined what it takes to become a lawyer. Later, they performed a very entertaining mock trial.
John Ray Guevarra worked with Max Allbee in an art teacher apprenticeship. Their exhibit was hands on with John Ray demonstrating and then helping participants make art with string and and paint. He is someone who was very comfortable speaking in front of everyone. A real natural speaker.
Yamileth Alfaro apprenticed with Kristin Morris working as an educational historian. She helped with the Chinese American performers database. I loved it! Her work can be found on the FoundSF website.
Anthony Jimenez apprecnticed wtih Charles Ackerley and Douglas Rooney in an architecture experience. He built his dream house complete with 2 living rooms!
And it seems i missed Rodnesha Garrett who worked with Danielle Reid as an E-commerce/technology apprentice. Sorry i missed you!
Stacy sold many of her paintings and with 50% of the proceeds going back to SPARK, she made a donation of about $19!
Food was brought by the parents and each apprentice gave one minute speeches. Towards the end, awards were given out to each of the apprentices and teachers, photos and video taken and it was just a lovely evening honoring the middle school students. It had been a long day and i was very tired but as i drove home, i noticed that i had an obvious and unexpected smile on my face. I think that means i will be participating in the SPARK program in the near future!
