CCA MFA and Dance
Thursday night was the opening reception for the graduating MFA students at CCA. I went to see the work of a friend from the San Francisco Art Institute, Doron Fishman. It was a massive affair, with lots of catered food, a couple of fire engines blocking the street (?why?), a large white tent with live music, and as you can see, lots of people. I had to catch a dance performance at 8 pm so i sped through the crowd to see Doron's work. 
In a word, it was magnificent. Doron has mastered the use of Yasutomo ink on paper to create these large scale pieces. I love it when someone's work transforms into a level of mastery and sophistication that comes from hard work. That doesn't always happen to MFA students who spend two intensive years of study. Out of the 4 people i knew at SFAI, 3 now have completed their MFAs. My other friend is too ill to do so and i am too cheap.
I went to see Deborah Slater's "Men Think They Are Better Than Grass" dance performance afterwards and i usually don't comment on dance but this one was visually stunning. The video projection worked well with the dancers as well as the simple set design. The run ends Sunday.
