Seven Days in the Art World
I finished a very informative, enjoyable, occasionally cringe producing book about the art world called "Seven Days in the Art World" by Sarah Thornton. Described as an ethnography, it describes in 7 sections, different areas of mostly the commerce world of the art. She describes the drama of the Christie auction, the (i think) ridiculousness of the MFA art critique at Cal Arts, the Basel Art Fair, the angst of the Turner Prize, the sometimes moving and inspiring words of the curators at Artforum Magazine, the large scale production of Takashi Murakami's art in this factory and lastly, fascinating details about the Venice Biennale.
