Paul Mahder Gallery
Paul Mahder Gallery
I attended a reception at the Paul Mahder Gallery on Sacramento Street in San Francisco to see the featured work of Migdalia Valdes. Also showing was the work of some of the artists they represent. Migdalia's new work is a continuation of her daily practice of photographing something and in the current show, we see the exposure of film in a different, engaging and abstract way.
The crowd was very different from the 49 Geary Street scene on a reception night. One notable difference is that the patrons were an older bunch compared to the student population at the downtown galleries. The Paul Mahder Gallery served much nicer wine and food. People tended to linger longer perhaps because there weren't other nearby galleries to visit. The gallery people whom i assumed to be the owners, were friendly, engaging, and looked like they were supportive of their artists. No gallerinas here!
I enjoyed the paintings on display especially the portraiture work of Elena Zolotnitsky who paints on gold leaf. The work glowed perhaps due to the gold leaf underneath.
