Holiday Party at 455 Market
I went to the holiday party at 455 Market and because i had shown work in 2009, i was presented with a beautiful lei by Bonnie Earls-Solari, curator of the shows here. The current show in the lobby is "The Allure of Aloha, Midcentury Hawaiian Menu Art" and will be up through January 8, 2010. These menus are pretty old and must've been well taken care of because the colors are still vibrant. There was Hawaiian music and free flowing drinks - it was a festive evening.
Prior to the party, a friend and i went to the Meridian Gallery to check out the "Trans: form color" show mainly because one of my favorite painters who i have already mentioned in this blog, John Zurier is showing work. John manages to achieve a luminosity that seems impossible - impossible because it seems he uses the bare minimum of paint. I am always fascinated when i look at this paintings. As usual, we were greeted by the friendly staff there - it is always a pleasure to visit Meridian.
