Joseph Blumenthal, cardiologist and artist
Last night i went to an art opening at a different sort of venue, St Luke's Hospital in the Mission District. Joseph Blumenthal, cardiologist was having a retrospective of this work which consisted mostly of monotypes although there were a few graphite drawings and etchings.
It is always interesting for me to see the work of Renaissance people - people who have the scientific and artistic mind. I enjoyed seeing his work - there was a misty, mysterious quality but also you can tell he was an excellent draftsman.
The lavish reception was hosted by the hospital and a drug company - certainly the best art reception i've ever been to with the paella, ceviche, martini bar, chocolate fountain, sangria, and all manner of munchies. Now, how can we get drug companies more involved in the local art scene?
