I work in District 11 (Excelsior District) and i love the neighborhood. Low key in nature, with a diverse population and lots of funky, inexpensive restaurants, it is home to one of the city's best places to show art because of the natural light, Mama Art Cafe. Last night was an attempt to "bring back the neighborhood" after suffering from last year's homicides. Attended by the District 11 supervisor, John Avalos, the main activities were centered in the area of Mission and Onondaga. His election headquarters was the site for the One Night Mural Project (see photo), an engaging photo exhibit by the local students, and art making activities. Mama Art Cafe showcased artists Nancy Hom, Jesse Auirre and Matt Christenson. And not for the reptile phobic crowd, there were a couple of beautiful snakes, a rather large, thorny lizard, a somnanbulent tortoise to pet as well as science experiments going on at one of the venues.
