Art Truck and the replacement

I wanted to take advantage of the "Cash for Clunkers" deal by trading in my art truck, a 1988, manual 4 W drive Toyota 4runner for a Scion xB. When i went to the EPA site when the program was first announced to see if the truck qualified, it just barely made it with the combined MPG of 18. Unfortunately, the official cars.gov site says it gets 19 mpg. We went to one of two places in Northern California that still had a Scion xB and that was still participating in Cash for Clunkers. We drove to Toyota Antioch during the afternoon commute last Friday, feeling confident that we qualified and had all the paperwork, found out we didn't qualify, decided we needed a new car anyway, waited over 2 hours after we made the deal to pay for the car, and then left, without a car. It seemed so unreasonable to wait all that time to pay and with the animals at home alone, i got fed up. We left, feeling relieved and a bit giddy knowing that we can take our time now to buy the Scion and perhaps buy locally. We bought a Prius from SF Toyota and were very happy with the service. We are looking to buying a Scion xB for the purpose of hauling art stuff but also, it is one of the few cars on the market that can fit widthwise into our garage.
