First Day in Washington DC

The first thing i wanted to do after checking into our hotel was to visit the monuments - the weater was hot and humid but at least there was some cloud cover. We visited the White House and then the Washington Memorial - i was surprised how much larger it seemed in person. Then the World War Two monument, Lincoln Memorial and the very moving Vietnam War memorial. We went back via the South lawn of the White House where many were out playing baseball games. Apparently someone spotted President Obama taking Bo out for a walk. We didn't see much of anything but barricades and tourists.

We also went to the Vietnam War Memorial and i couldn't bring myself to take any photos since they wouldn't do the memorial any justice. It has to be experienced. Eventhough it was strong visually in its simplicity, there was so much more power present than any image could relate. I remember the controversy over this design and the added sculpture of the three military figures that stand at one end. That piece doesn't fit at all but is it's own separate memorial.
