Most of the artists i know, need to work at a "regular" job in order to survive and that includes well established, internationally recognized artists. Most at Francisco Studios won't be participating in this year's Open Studios in October - one is leaving the studio to work from home thus saving a huge amount in rent - she had been here for 13 years. So far, only two of us will be participating and that's compared to last year's 12 artists.

In response to the economic times, i thought i would post this interesting article in Esquire.com about a successful cover letter. It gives 3 examples: all hot air, all business, and just plain folksy and you might be surprised to see which one was the most successful. I think that it also depends on what kind of job you are looking for. For example, i would imagine that the "folksy" letter would not get a positive response if one is applying to a science position.
