March 3rd Girls' Day

This latest painting (still in progress) which originally was influenced by the cherry blossoms, morphed into something else. While the colors were accurate, it had no connection for me. I did not want to recreate a cherry blossom tree. I broke away from that original intent and the painting took on a different feeling. It became a painting about Japanese Girls' Day which is celebrated on March 3rd annually. My mother would display the dolls in their ornate kimonos and furniture and the colors and the cheer of this celebration became this painting.
