Japanese Girls Day
A quick study of cherry blossoms abstracted.
I mentioned previously that i was working on a painting about cherry blossoms but the painting was boring. Things started working for me when the painting morphed into a painting about Japanese Girls Day which is celebrated annually on March 3rd. My mother used to get her dolls out to display and the colors i associate with this time are pink, red, and orange. Garish but cheerful. My mother collected all sorts of dolls which were stored in wooden boxes, smelling of age. She said that the dolls needed to be released from storage once a year to let them "breathe" and to show their faces. I am not sure if i am done with the painting - i brought it home to see it's "doneness".
