Earth Day Tsunami
I went to The Bay Model on Saturday to watch the live performance of Earth Day Tsunami. I'd never been to the Bay Model, and was surprised to see how large it was. There were informative and entertaining talks before the release of plastic into the model. The work was spearheaded by Helen Chellin who was inspired to do the work after hiking on the southend of the Big Island of Hawaii and thought she came upon a dump. It was in fact not a dump but a place where garbage naturally accumulated. Since then, she has worked collaboratively with a photographer and with dancers to highlight ocean debris plastic. In addition, her paintings which were also on exhibit at the Bay Model, reflect her concern with plastic pollution. The exhition will continue through May 9, 2009.
