Secretary of the Arts

Quincy Jones has started a petition to ask President-Elect Obama to appoint a Secretary of the Arts. While many other countries have had Ministers of Art or Culture for centuries, The United States has never created such a position. Those in the arts need this and the country needs the arts - now more than ever. If you think this is worthwhile, please take a moment and sign the petition and then pass it on to your friends and colleagues.

And while we are at it, how about a minister of happiness like they have in Bhutan?

I had slides taken by Don Felton of Almac Camera tonight. Because i have windows with no shades to block out light, he needs to come after dark and thankfully, it is dark by 6 pm. He took slides of my latest work which i will again submit to the SFMOMA Rental Gallery at Fort Mason. They only take slides which for my work is better than digital images on a computer screen. Don now takes super high resolution digital images which can be made into slides at NewLab (111 8th St.) for $5 each. He charges $10 per digital image so it is almost the same price as the slides - i order 2 slides but usually end up with 5-10 extras so for 2 slides it is $15 but with the digital image, you have the original image "forever". For my work, because i was skeptical, he took both slides and digital images of each painting to prove to me how good the image will turn out without charging me. He's a great guy.
