Scam alert
Art scam alert from ArtSpan...
I posted my scam letters verbatim in the past but it's a good idea to repeat the warning...
ALERT: ART SCAM
Members of our community have been targeted by an art scam.
1. You receive an e-mail indicating that someone wants to purchase a (or several) works of art.
2. You reply to the e-mail and determine how much the buyer is to pay.
3. You receive a check from the buyer that is MORE THAN the price you indicated to the buyer.
4. You contact the buyer, who writes that you can cash the check, ship the artwork, and send the buyer a check for the change.
5. You ship the work and mail a check for the change.
6. 4 weeks later your bank informs you that the check bounced.
What you lose
1. The art work you shipped
2. The check you issued for change
Protect Yourself: Always use Google.com to research “art scam.” If an e-mail looks suspicious, drop the body (message) and title into separate Google searches.
