The gist: approximately 170 SF businesses are offering discounts on merchandise, meals, htoels, shows, museums, boat tours and more to reisdents of the nine county Bay Area. To take them up on the offers, show your zip code (between 94000 and 95100) on a driver's license, business card or other proof of residence.

The highlights - free admission for kids at museums, average of about 20% discount at restaurants and shows, reduced room rates at downtown hotels, discounts or freebies at many neighborhood shops, spas, even banks. There are parking and public transit specials including all day transfers on Muni and discounted validation in participating city-owned parking garages.

And just a note about Andrew Ross...i've been taking dance and aerobic dance classes at Rhythm and Motion for the past 5 years and occassionally i dance next to this very nice gentleman. It turns out that this nice gentleman is Andrew Ross and I only knew about it after the Chronicle started posting photos of the columnists!
