Abashiri Prison Musuem, Hokkaido
We visited Abashiri Prison Museum, located on the Okhotsk Sea coast. The musuem used to hold political prisoners. I can only imagine how wretched it must have been during the winter when there are icebergs floating in the sea. The prisoners carved vents for the bathhouse - they made the effort to make it beautiful.
This was an interesting musuem in that they had these mannequins set up to show daily life.
The musuem offered "prisoner food" intheir canteen for 500 yen, a great deal and it was pretty tasty. Nutritious too!
But eventhough this was a prison, they had time for flowers.
