Furoshiki

The furoshiki, a square shaped fabric is making a comeback as the original "green" bag. My grandfather used to carry his legal papers in a beautiful silk furoshiki with the family crest and his lunch in another nylon one. Before the days of "paper or plastic?", actually, since the 14th century, the Japanese have used the furoshiki to carry all sorts of things. Check out the "Furoshiki" exhibition where artists have their own take on the furoshiki. An example of function and beauty...a stylish way to carry your stuff or present gifts. It is reusable, washable, fashionable, and an elegant alternative to plastic/paper bags.
