experiment time

I've been experimenting on paper while waiting for new stretcher bars to arrive. I wanted to look at the technique of nihonga painting while still using the similar waxy paints, repetitive brush strokes and layering. Instead of non-representational paintings, i have abstracted a cherry blossom tree. It has been a problem i've been thinking about for a while...how to create the sublime white and pink colors of the tree. The painting on the left is done, and the other is still in progress.
The new stretcher bars will reflect the new sizes and orientation, specifically, the paintings will be horizontally oriented and hopefully, more marketable. I want to get a few done by open studios in October.
