Lost Pain
Having the laptop has allowed me to more accurately Photoshop the colors of my paintings in situ.
Last night, i went to Kearny Street Workshop to see "Activist Imagniation". That was the first time i have been to this space - very nice, and in a great location, 180 Capp St (X 17th St). I saw my old studiomate, Scott Tsuchitani who mentioned a New York Times article i should read about anxious art buyers. The main point of the article he wanted to highlight was the website www.paintersdirect.com which takes away the fear and anxiety of buying art from galleries. From their website:
PaintingsDIRECT.com's vision is to establish a link between painters and art lovers. In order to achieve this vision, we deal directly with the artists. When you order from us, we contact the artist and work with him/her to deliver the painting to you. This is a very customized process that guarantees the authenticity of the paintings and the best service possible.
In order to submit slides or digital images on CD of your artwork to our Curatorial Department for review, please send us the following materials:
15 - 20 images
biography
price list
artist statement
return envelope

I appreciate the efforts of PaintingsDirect.com to make art buying more accessible but i do not relish the idea of galleries disappearing. I love visiting them to get fresh perspectives, to understand what is "out there", and to appreciate seeing something handmade up close. And no, i haven't been drinking the koolaid!
