Ordway Prize Winners, Artforum exhibit directory

The Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles and a Hammer Museum curator, James Elaine of Los Angeles, have won the 2008 Ordway Prize, reports Carol Vogel in the New York Times. Each will receive an unrestricted gift of one hundred thousand dollars. This is the second time that the prize has been awarded. It is given every two years to a midcareer artist and to a midcareer arts writer or contemporary art curator. Intended as an American counterpart to the Turner Prize in Britain, the award is administered by the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and the Creative Link for the Arts (formerly the Penny McCall Foundation). The jury included Jennifer McSweeney, director of Creative Link; Doris Salcedo, the Colombian artist who won the 2006 Ordway Prize; Vicente Todoli, chief curator and director of Tate Modern in London; and Hamza Walker, director of education and associate curator at the Renaissance Society, at the University of Chicago.
ARTFORUM has a convenient art guide organized by choosing regions and/or cities. Want to find a listing of art openings in San Francisco or see what is happening in Cairo? Check out this very useful site.

A listing of all selected artists (that would be me!) for Chicago's The Artists Project is now online under "exhibitors".
From the website: April 25-28, 2008The Artist Project is Artropolis’ key event dedicated to the independent artist. The second annual exhibition and sale will feature original work from a juried selection of 300 established and emerging artists who are currently unaffiliated within the gallery community. It is a rare opportunity to discover and obtain interesting and affordable art directly form a uniquely talented group of artists.
Hope to see a few familiar faces!
