Crossroads in Nihonmachi

Ahh, what a glamorous life i lead...art openings, dance performances and tonight an exclusive film premier at the new Sundance Theater Kabuki in San Francisco's Japantown http://www.sundancecinemas.com/kabuki.html. Several films were highlighted but i went to see the documentary "Crossroads in Nihonmachi", an Urban Voice production http://www.urbanvoice.org/. The film discussed the changes that have occurred in the Japanese community from the time of the internment during WWII, the redevelopment of the area in the 60's and 70's, and the sale of a major portion on the area that just recently occurred. (FYI, Nihonmachi means Japantown in Japanese.) There was great historical footage as well as an interesting narrative that brings up important questions about community. My only complaint is that the title lacks that certain something that makes you want to know more...it's a bit dull.
The Kabuki theater has been tarted up to be more upscale. We had a cocktail after the film in the theater that didn't seem too bad. The management made an effort to create an ambient atmosphere with good lighting, comfy seating and original art.
