Red and Marva Wright
I finally started a new painting last Friday, this time it will have a red theme. I began with a couple of colors and weirdly enough, i used a color i was wearing. This has happened before where i was influenced by the colors surrounding me. I was using a certain blue for a while, and then i realized it is the same blue that has been painted on the concrete in the studio. Today, i used a green on the painting that was exactly the same color as my tank top.
One day a few months ago, i couldn't find the right colors for a painting i was working on. I realized that i was being influenced by this hot pink turtleneck sweater i was wearing. After i covered it with a gray jacket, i could make the painting choices.
Friday night, Mick and i went to hear Marva Wright at the Boom Boom Room http://www.boomboomblues.com/, an amazing blues singer from New Orleans http://www.marvawright.com/. I love listening to her CDs but was slightly disappointed by her live performance this time because her sets were very short. She seemed much more frail since the last time i saw here which was in New Orleans about 15 years ago but when se sang, she was powerful. She had this amazing keyboardist, Keiko Komaki and fantastic lead guitarist whose name i couldn't get but he seemed to be another of Japanese descent. It is so refreshing to see Asians in the "non-traditional" roles as jamming musicians. There was also a roving photographer taking pictures at the club - and since we didn't have a recent photo of us as a couple, i thought we could splurge and have this photo taken.
