Introductions 2007

I sent in my submission for Introductions 2007 sponsored by Root Division. Root Division http://www.rootdivision.org/ is located in the Mission district, on 17th Street between Shotwell and South Van Ness Avenue. It is a great organization that combines affordable artist space with community arts education. They sponsor many shows and this one will be juried by Gregory Lind, Owner and Director of the Gregory Lind Gallery, Meg Shiffer, Gallery Director of the SF Arts Commisssion Gallery and Jessica Hough, Director at Mills Art Museum. I once applied for space at Root Division and was turned down after they reviewed my portfolio and after an interview process that reminded me of when i applied for a scientist position at the biotech company i used to work for. Pretty intense but i am glad i didn't get in as i have the perfect studio space at Francisco Studios.
I wrote a very simple and spartan artist statement and i hope it doesn't sound pretentious.

"My current body of work explores the notion of creating a painting that is devoid of personality, thought and intellect. There is no subject matter, no preconceived idea, no visual reference, no source material. There is the repetition of brush strokes on a canvas with paint. The only deliberate and conscious decisions made are the choices of color. "

Added note July 30th - My work was not accepted.
